Penguins Goalie Academy is a year round program to help goaltenders improve and develop their game. The Academy offers a variety of weekly sessions, clinics and camps throughout the season to cater to any goalie’s training needs.
The Penguins Goalie Academy is run by Mitch Harris. Mitch, previously the Director of Program Development for the Goalie Doctor school in the Philadelphia area, will be the Director of Goaltending for all UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex goalie training, EXCEL Hockey Academy and Pittsburgh Penguins Elite. Prior to joining the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex he served as the goalie coach for the Metropolitan Riveters (PHF), Alvernia University (NCAA Men's Division III), Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights (NCDC, Premier and Elite), The Hill School Boys Prep team and various youth programs in the Philadelphia, Central and Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Choose a single date or multiple dates. A great opportunity for goalies to improve their game with goalie specific ice sessions focusing on the individual’s needs. Goalies will be taught in a fun and positive environment with a ratio of no more than 3 goalies per net.
Once a week goalie specific training for 7 weeks.
Kick off summer with this intense four day high performance camp created for motivated and dedicated goaltenders looking to reach the next level. Limited to 9 goalies and a 3:2 goalie to coach/shooter ratio, this camp will focus on fine tuning all areas of the position.
The Elite Summer Academy is a great opportunity for goalies to train in an elite environment all summer long. This 8 week, 16 session program will allow your son or daughter to fine tune their game on and off the ice. Limited to six goalies per age group, coaches will be able to build on each individual goalie’s strengths. Each day will consist of a 60 minute ice session and 45 minute goalie specific off-ice training session.
Goalie Camp will be a high intensity camp designed to push goalies to reach their full potential. The camp will consist of 2 hours of ice time and a 30 minute goalie specific office session per day. Sessions will focus on skating, depth & positioning, tracking and save selection. Drills will be designed to challenge each individual goaltender, providing progression based drills that will cater to each goalie’s skill level.
For goalies, our Director of Goaltending will coach making proper reads on the play; our Skills Professional will share the tips & tricks that players use to disguise their movements. For players & goalies, on-ice sessions include skating, puck handling, and game-simulated scoring opportunities followed by an interactive video session.
Becoming an elite goalie is more than on ice training. Mindset, mobility, vision and video review training are all critical elements to becoming an elite goalie. This spring, join the Penguins Goalie Academy Staff for our 4 session bi-weekly Mind and Mobility Program. Each session will include Live goalie mindset talk with Pete Fry the Goalie Mindset Guy, Mobility, Vision training
