Adult Learn to Play

Beginner/Novice

Know how to skate and want to learn to play hockey? This is the program for you!

Adult Learn to Play is for players who can skate forward and backward (at least a bit) and do a hockey stop to the right or to the left (preferably both).

Participants will continue to work on skating as it relates to the game of hockey:

  • Skating with the puck
  • Stationary passing
  • Passing while skating
  • Stationary shooting
  • Shooting while skating
  • Stance & balance: creating a solid platform for shooting, passing & controlling the puck

Additional Skills that will be taught:

  • Basic stickhandling
  • Shooting – backhand will be introduced as players progress
  • Passing – backhand will be introduced as players progress
  • Protecting yourself along the boards
  • Improved balance & edge control – being strong on your skates

Sessions will end with small area games to give participants the opportunity to put their developing skills to use and to have fun playing hockey!

Novice/Beginner

April 8 – June 3 (8 weeks)

Mondays: 8:10 – 9:10pm

April 8, 15, 22, 29, May 6, 13, 20, June 3

Fee: $208

 

Equipment

Required equipment:

  • Hockey skates (rental skates available)
  • Hockey helmet
  • Hockey pants
  • Shin guards
  • Elbow pads
  • Hockey gloves
  • Stick

Recommended: shoulder pads, mouth guard, half shield or cage, pelvic protection, neck guard.
